This chunky ring features a faceted large piece of Mohave turquoise, a type of material first referenced in the Lapidiary Journal in 1979. It is crafted through a process that compresses Kingman turquoise into pieces, and those compressed pieces are dyed, sometimes before and sometimes after the compressing. Metal dust or small pieces can be added to create the sense of flow inside the compression. In this case gold-colored metal dust has been added to the various shades of blue. The ring was made by New Mexico based Desert Rose Trading, which since the early 1980s has created Southwestern designs. The company was established by the host of HSN's "Santa Fe Silver."
